Doors, openers and the standards behind them
Two Australian/New Zealand standards sit behind most powered garage doors: one for the door, one for the opener. They are product standards, not a verdict on any particular door, and this page cannot tell you whether yours meets them. That needs someone to look at the door and opener in person.

Standards Australia notes that regulators who reference a standard may apply its requirements at a different time, so the date a standard changes is not always the date a rule changes. If you are buying a new opener or door, you can ask the installer which edition it is built to.

Leave springs and cables alone. The springs and cables on a garage door hold a lot of stored tension. Do not loosen brackets, remove bolts or try to adjust a spring yourself. If the door is stuck partway, keep children, pets and vehicles clear and call us.

Questions people ask us
Can the opener be replaced without replacing the door?
Often, yes, as long as the door is structurally sound and moves freely by hand. If the door is damaged, badly out of balance or has a failing spring, a new opener will not fix that and can wear out sooner. Describe the door when you enquire and we can tell you which applies.
Why does my door keep jamming?
